It seems that the USB communication to this printer does not work. Alone lsusb does not work with it, and dmesg tells me something like "control timeout on ep0in" But this printer is also not listed on HPs compatibility page: http://hpinkjet.sourceforge.net/productslj.php\

To be able to use most Lexmark printers, you need to download the drivers from here. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=679505 these drivers work with the X600series, but are known to work with most Lexmark colour inkjets

Works like a charm with full 3D. Also running BattleField 1942/DC_Final. Drivers can be a hassle, but not impossible. (Tried on Debian (woody) and Gentoo (2004.2 and up.))

Hardware

ELektronik-KOmpendium.de "Elektronik, Computertechnik, Kommunikationstechnik und Netzwerktechnik einfach und leicht verständlich erklärt." (Hier habe ich mal einen Anschlußplan gefunden, als ich für mein Modem einen TAE-Stecker umlöten mußte. Klappte damit einwandfrei, obwohl ich sonst von Elektronik Null Ahnung habe.)
